Potteric Carr is the largest of approximately 80 nature reserves managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and one of the largest urban nature reserves in the country at around 500 acres. Kingfishers, foxes, woodpeckers and roe deer are frequently seen throughout the year. Spring sees large numbers of migrating birds, and many overwintering species arrive in the Autumn.

There are extensive and well maintained paths suited to both wheelchairs and pushchairs and a fine cafe where blue badge parking facilities for cars is provided .
